Captain Kirk on Dancing with the Stars

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Captain James Tiberius Kirk of television’s Star Trek is an American icon. The Captain, whose courage is legendary, will boldly go where no man has gone before. And so he does is this mashup.

Here, Kirk, played by William Shatner, will hit the dance floor, bust out some moves and risk the scorn of the judges.

The judges in question are Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Their comments, whether praise or criticism, are often as entertaining as the show’s dance numbers.

Star Trek Meets South Park’s Brown Noise

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

The Star Ship Enterprise made its first appearance in 1966 in Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek. It has been redesigned, refitted and reincarnated in a variety of subsequent movies and TV series. The Starship Enterprise is almost certainly the most well known space vessel in science fiction.

In this mash up, things get messy when the Enterprise is caught in a time warp, flung to 21st century earth, and buffeted by South Park’s deadly Brown Noise, “a certain pitch that causes people to lose bowel control”.

South Park, of course, is an award winning, animated TV comedy series. It is in its 12th season. South Park is known for its satire and its willingness to take on any issue. Some have called it “the most philosophical show in TV history.”

Mr. Spock is one of the central characters of the original Star Trek TV series, and one of TV’s best know figures. Half-Vulcan, half-Human Spock’s Vulcan logic and human emotions are typically in conflict. And so they are in this mashup.

Here, as Science Officer, Spock studies an ancient ritual; one that is completely devoid of logic. Surprisingly, he becomes fascinated, moved, and, dare he say, “happy”.

In this mashup, Kang and Kodos of TV’s the Simpsons throw down the gauntlet and at the feet of Captain James T. Kirk of of the starship Enterprise.

Have Kang and Kodos bitten off more than they can chew? Kirk, after all, is the embodiment of some humanitiy’s most noble attributes; and he has defeated foes far more fearsome than the drooling, one-eyed, brother-sister team of Kang and Kodos.
